Encaustic Flag Paintings

My Encaustic Flag paintings are done either in a 6 panel format held together with threaded rod, copper pipe, washers, nuts and bolts or single large format. Painted at Treedogpress Studios in Woody Creek, Colorado. My subject matter of the American flag, Colorado and Texas flags are contemporary but evoke the grittiness of blue collar/pioneer America. I was doing an artist residency at Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming when I got the inspiration to paint the American flag. Being on the open prairie in the beautiful landscape of Wyoming brought me back to a time when the country was new, vast and wild, a time when the flag was truly a symbol of freedom and fortitude.
